YOUR BIGGEST INSECURITY COULD BE HOW GOD WORKS THROUGH YOU
Updated: Dec 19, 2023
The Lord asks people throughout history to use their biggest insecurity to bring honor and glory to Him. When God asked Moses to lead His people out of Egypt, Moses used his stutter as a reason why he wasn't fit for the job. God responded with:
11 Then the Lord asked Moses, "Who makes a person's mouth? Who decides whether people speak or do not speak, hear or do not hear, see or do not see? Is it not I, the Lord? 12 Now go! I will be with you as you speak, and I will instruct you in what to say." 13 But Moses again pleaded, "Lord, please! Send anyone else." - Exodus 4:11-13
Moses still did not trust God in what He was asking him. He was speaking to a physical manifestation of the Spirit of the living God, and he still lets his biggest insecurity get the best of him.
How many of us have thought: "If God really wants me to do that, He will need to show me a sign."
Moses had a sign we would be in awe over and still doubted the power of God. When it came to his greatest insecurity, he still thought it was too big for God to overcome. Moses tried rejecting God’s request, and that didn’t sit well with God.
13 But Moses again pleaded, "Lord, please! Send anyone else." 14 Then the Lord became angry with Moses. "All right," he said. "What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he speaks well. And look! He is on his way to meet you now. He will be delighted to see you. 15 Talk to him, and put the words in his mouth. I will be with both of you as you speak, and I will instruct you both in what to do. Exodus 4:13-15
Even still, God worked ...
16 Aaron will be your spokesman to the people. He will be your mouthpiece, and you will stand in the place of God for him, telling him what to say. 17 And take your shepherd's staff with you, and use it to perform the miraculous signs I have shown you." Exodus 4:16-17
I believe God wanted to use Moses specifically to work through his biggest insecurity. Moses would have been known for his stutter. God specifically told Moses,
11 Then the Lord asked Moses, "Who makes a person's mouth? Who decides whether people speak or do not speak, hear or do not hear, see or do not see? Is it not I, the Lord? Exodus 4:11
God desired to use Moses' voice. Using it would have shown the transforming power of God. God asks the same of us today. That big flaw or insecurity of yours just may be your greatest asset to the Kingdom of God. Let God have it, give Him your "yes," and watch how God will use it for His glory. It will impact others more greatly because God will be seen through it. You may see weakness, but that is the vessel God often fills with His strength. What the enemy uses for evil, God will use for good.
20 You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. Genesis 50:20
I am dyslexic. Historically, I have not been a "good" writer. When I heard Holy Spirit tell me to start writing, my first thought was, "You're going to need to do this because I don't have that skill." And that is all God wanted. He wanted my heart to say, "yes, God." The outcome didn't matter. He wanted my "yes."
After I gave my "yes," I immediately heard the whisper of Holy Spirit say, "You won't have to do anything." And He was right. I cannot do this in my strength, so I have learned to rely on God when I write. Writing does not feel like work because I feel Holy Spirit's guidance on what to write.
You giving God your full "yes" within your insecurity significantly impacts people for the Kingdom of God. Moses, the man who God chose to lead His chosen people out of slavery, could not fully trust God with his greatest insecurity. Even still, God had mercy on Moses and worked with him when Moses didn't give his full "yes." And yet Moses was known and loved by God fully.
17 And the Lord said to Moses, "I will do the very thing you have asked, because I am pleased with you and I know you by name." 18 Then Moses said, "Now show me your glory." 19 And the Lord said, "I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the Lord, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. Exodus 33:17-19
It is not too late for you to give God your full "yes." He redeems those whose hearts have turned towards him. He redeemed mine. I know He can do the same for you.
